With the marathon done and dusted, two pounds heavier (?) and a good deal more relaxed I'm back in the country with an in-tray akin to a monolith and a backlog of posts a mile long. But first the race - of the three of us who competed we all made it, maybe not quite in the time I'd hoped (4hrs 30mins) but after the run-up and stress of the pre-race expo I was just glad to be alive, unable to walk admittedly - but alive. A great sense of achievement was felt by all involved and I'm already signed up for the next one in December.
As for the trip we started of in Copenhagen but didn't stick around for long after all, two circuits of a city culminating in a pathetic attempt to sprint finish gives you a pretty good feel for a place - and a pretty big desire to leave. The next day we headed for Malmo across the beautiful Oresund bridge that just disappears in to the sea, and stayed for the night before heading off to Gedser to catch the ferry to Germany. Once we made Germany it was a pretty slick drive to Berlin - autobahn all the way. You know those places where you turn up and it just feels like home? Well Berlin was one of those, even after having been told by plenty of nice people that it's a great place I wasn't ready for the mixture of culture, history and edginess this place delivers like a kick in the nuts. The street-art, Museums (of which there are many - the best being the Jewish Museum and Museum fur Kommunikation) and architecture were inspiring to say the least and the people had that kind of relaxed attitude I'd usually associate with the mediterranean. Anyway, more on that in a while, lots to catch up on for now...
